ABORTION SERVICES

At Medical Options, the fee covers counseling, routine lab tests, medical screening, the surgical or medical procedure, recovery room care, and a follow-up visit.

Surgical abortions are performed by a licensed physician between 5 weeks and 15 weeks after the beginning of your last normal period. The surgical method used is vacuum aspiration which is a safe, gentle suctioning of the uterus. For first trimester abortions, you can choose local anesthesia, where you will be awake but receive medication to numb the cervical area, or you can choose twilight anesthesia, which is intravenous sedation. For abortions at or beyond the 12th week, twilight anesthesia is given. After the abortion, you will spend up to an hour in the recovery room where the medical staff will monitor your condition until you leave the office.

Medical abortions are a non-invasive, non-surgical option that can be performed from as early as 3 weeks after conception, up to 9 weeks of pregnancy. A required ultrasound will be performed to determine gestational age. Patients who qualify for this early option will be given one pill by mouth at the initial visit that blocks the hormone which maintains the pregnancy. Additional pills to use at home 24-48 hours later will be provided which will cause the uterus to expel the pregnancy.

PREGNANCY CONFIRMATION

Pregnancy testing is available Monday through Saturday. Results are given immediately. Information is available on all options from our professional counselors. Abortion appointments may be scheduled at that time or later by telephone.
